In the midst of intense debate, Nusraat Faria recently talked about her emotional experience playing Sheikh Hasina in Mujib: The Making of a Nation.
Faria’s casting was well appreciated when the movie was originally revealed.
But when the Awami League administration fell and the political landscape altered, things took a significant turn for the worst.
On social media, the actress received harsh criticism.
One critic made fun of her by posing the question, “Who will make the biopic of the fascist escaping?”
Nusraat spoke candidly about the negative responses on a podcast.
“An artist’s life involves criticism, but this felt like a gamble,” she added.
“Everything appeared to be normal when I signed up for the movie. I received recognition for the part. But all of a sudden, the nation was against me.
“Since July, the whole situation flipped,” Nusraat thought. I was left unsure about my next course of action.
Nevertheless, she emphasized that artists shouldn’t be held accountable for changes in public opinion or politics.
Nusraat revealed that things were different when she started working at Mujib in 2019.
“I don’t have the luxury of turning down a project that the government approaches me with,” she stated.
She felt obligated to take the chance since she comes from a middle-class family, especially because it included the well-known filmmaker Shyam Benegal.
Her career has been impacted, nonetheless, by the controversy surrounding her portrayal of Sheikh Hasina.
