KARACHI – People from all walks of life demonstrated against the government’s indifference on Friday in the nation’s largest cities after being stung by one inflated bill after another.
People flocked to Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, and other cities in large numbers to vent their outrage at the government for forcing them to pay exorbitant electricity bills for the previous two to three months.
The recent rise in per unit pricing in accordance with the agreements the government has made with the IMF is one evident cause for higher than anticipated expenses. Additional taxes have made the problem worse, and the public now distrusts the government as a result.
The majority of the time, shopkeepers who claimed they couldn’t afford the power bills were in charge of the protests. They demanded that the government reduce the additional taxes.
