In order to make technology more available to the general population, the caretaker administration is reportedly planning to launch a system in which cell phones would be distributed in installments to citizens across Pakistan.
The day before, the Ministry of Information and Technology held a meeting attended by representatives from the country’s leading telecoms businesses, according to local media.
During the meeting, a top ministry official informed the firms of the government’s intention to draft legislation for a system in which mobile phones will be distributed to the general people in installments.
According to reports quoting sources, recommendations are being formalized in this regard, and relevant agencies will be brought on board soon.
How would smartphone installment plans operate in Pakistan?
Companies in several regions of the world provide mobile phones to the public in installments. Under the scheme, customers must pay a predetermined sum in advance and the remaining in payments over three to twelve months.
Pakistanis, according to sources, would not have to go through any lengthy procedures since they will be able to acquire a mobile phone using their NADRA ID card.
