ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) on Tuesday announced a negative fuel cost adjustment (FCA) of 76 paise per unit for ex-Wapda distribution companies (Discos) and 49 paise for K-Electric customers in January’s bills.

Refunds were issued for Discos’ customers in November and KE users in October.

The KE recommended a 27-paisa per unit reimbursement for October usage, which was later increased to 49-paisa by the regulator. On the other side, Discos sought a 63-paisa return, which was increased to 76-paisa.

Fuel charge adjustments are made by utilities in response to changes in global fuel prices and generating mix. The announcement said that the negative FCA would apply to all customer groups with the exception of residential users with monthly usage of less than 300 units, prepayment metering consumers.

The adjustment for monthly FCA also applies to residential clients using Time of Use (ToU) meters, regardless of their usage level.
