LAHORE – Somia Asim, the wife of a civil judge, was granted protective bail by the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday in the domestic violence case.
After hearing the petition, Justice Farooq Haider granted her bail till August 1.
A day after accusations that she had torturized a 14-year-old maid at her Sargodha home, police had already filed a complaint against Somia.
According to the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) police, the Humak police reported the incident to them and filed a complaint under sections 506 and 342 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
Rizwana, a 14-year-old domestic helper from 88 North, Sargodha, was reportedly abused by the wife of a civil judge assigned to the Federal Judicial Academy, Islamabad, according to claims that surfaced on Monday. She was given a position as domestic help at the home of the civil judge by a friend named Mukhtar.
The girl’s parents claim that her employment began six months ago. According to them, the judge’s wife brutally tortured their daughter.
They claimed that Rizwana had physical evidence of severe torture inflicted on her by the judge’s wife.
However, the civil judge assigned to the Judicial Academy claimed there was no aggression committed against the girl.
I don’t support violence,” he declared, adding that his wife had taken his wealth and had simply given the daughter to her mother as a punishment. There was no doubt about torture, he claimed.
He said, “The mother herself has beaten the girl.”
On the other side, the victim girl’s parents claim that the judge’s wife assaulted their daughter with a bat after accusing her of stealing their jewelry.
According to Sargodha DPO Faisal Kamran, the girl had serious injuries to her head and face as a result of the assault, and her right arm was swollen as well.
The young woman was returned to Sargodha by her mother, where she received medical treatment at the DHQ hospital.
The girl had been sent to Lahore, according to Kamran.
